i read another elle kennedy book and it was not good.

I don’t know why I decided to request an ARC of this book, since I don’t even like Elle Kennedy’s books that much––the only one I really enjoyed being The Chase (mainly due to the unique play on role reversals), but I did, so here are my thoughts.

I can only really read Elle Kennedy’s books when I’m exhausted and have just finished a thriller, and need a light and cheesy read.

This one follows Genevieve and Evan; when Genevieve returns home for her mother’s funeral, she wants to keep her distance from Evan, her ex-boyfriend. But, much to her displeasure, it is nearly impossible to not run into Evan in their small coastal town, and the more time she spends with him, the more she is reminded of just how good they were together.

I didn’t go into the book expecting the characters to be particularly mature, but holy shit were they ridiculously immature. Both of them made so many incredibly stupid decisions that I literally had to put the book down for a few hours, before picking it up again.

I also just didn’t really like Evan that much? He was so so toxic, that I found it so hard to root for the relationship. There wasn’t much growth between the characters at all, on both ends, and there really wasn’t any huge plot either. I didn’t even really understand why they couldn’t be together, and then why they were finally able to get together at the end.

I don’t particularly go for second-chance romances, because I think it can be hard to convince me a relationship should work a second time, when it couldn’t work the first time, but this one was beyond bad. The writing felt dated, neither character felt developed, and the romance was just really boring.

I don’t think I will be picking up any other Elle Kennedy book any time soon, and I would not recommend this one.
